Chapter 4Verse 39
Jnana Karma Sanyasa Yoga
श्रद्धावाँल्लभते ज्ञानं तत्परः संयतेन्द्रियः। ज्ञानं लब्ध्वा परां शान्तिमचिरेणाधिगच्छति॥
śraddhāvāl labhate jñānaṁ tat-paraḥ saṁyatendriyaḥ, jñānaṁ labdhvā parāṁ śāntim acireṇādhigacchati
Translation
Someone with faith, devoted to it and in control of their senses, gains knowledge. And having gained it, they soon reach the highest peace.
The moment
Krishna has just said that nothing in the world purifies like knowledge. Here he tells Arjuna who actually gets that knowledge.
What it means
Three things open the door to real understanding: trust in the path, steady commitment and self-control. Once that understanding comes, deep peace isn't far behind.
Going deeper
'Shraddhāvān labhate jnānam', the person with faith gains knowledge, is one of the most quoted lines in the Gita. Faith here doesn't mean believing without thinking.
It means trusting the process enough to keep going before you see results. Learning almost anything hard needs that trust, because the understanding arrives after the effort, not before it.
In your life
Think of something you gave up on because it wasn't working yet: a skill, a practice, a book. Ask whether you stopped before the understanding had time to arrive. Pick one and give it a set period of real commitment before you judge it.
Faith, focus and self-control bring knowledge. And knowledge brings peace.
